Fickle Arsenal fans - Fick Off - United loss is not a travesty.

Before I kick off, I'd like to get a few things straight. This is the Arsenal Ranter blog. I like to have a rant. But I usually do so in jest. I'm actually a very positive Gooner and always try to keep an open mind. At this stage of the season especially, I'm still feeling positive and will not write off our chances for trophies and I will be behind my team 100% all the way through the season and the next and the next til I die.
I am proud to be an Arsenal fan. We may have gone without a trophy for nearly 6 seasons but we have so much to be proud of.

Such as:

1. We're currently 2nd in the league - not bad considering we've not even been playing our best and have had important players  missing for a lot of the season so far.

2. We're still in the running for 4 trophies. No other top 4 club can claim that.

3. We play the most attractive, pure football in England and can only be rivalled in Europe by Barcelona in terms of entertainment value.

4. We have consistently had a conveyor belt of young talent including many English players who I'm certain will play an important part in our national team.

5. We have in Wenger, a manager who has helped establish us as the only truly safe club in the country in terms of financial stability. The financial results in February speak for themselves.
No other club can rival us in self sustainability, not even Manure who have crippling debts and are only kept afloat because of their global branding.

Our global brand is growing slowly and naturally based on word of mouth alone, due to our reputation for entertaining football, not because we paid millions to play an exhibition game in Wallawallabingbang, Singapore to sell some Rooney/Shrek shirts.

6. We have one of the most advanced and envied stadiums in Europe which is pretty much always full to the brim at every game.

7. Our away support consistently drown out the home crowds vocally with funny, passionate chants!

8. Our players have the sexiest, hottest wags! And they're not fame hungry wannabee's who would sell their souls, their grandmothers and children for an appearance on the front cover of Hello!!

.......etc.....etc....

I say all this because I was appalled with the behaviour of so called Arsenal fans after the game against manure. I watched You're on Sky Sports and heard whingy AFC fans phoning, emailing and Twittering in going on about Wenger not spending, 'get Wenger out', 'why is Wenger blaming the pitch?' 'poor excuses' etc etc... I was disgusted, so sent my own Twit to the show telling these mugs to stop moaning - We're still in the mix and have important players coming back from injury still trying to get back to 100% form.

It was the same on Twitter. Of course the whole point of Twitter and other social networking site is to be able to express your feelings, voice opinions and like me, have a rant. But I am shocked at the amount of Wenger haters out there. People who get really personal about certain players, especially after a loss. I understand emotions run high but some of these 'Gooners' need to start getting things into perspective.

It  may be a good idea for them to start reading things properly, to start listening properly, ie; Wenger's comments on the poor pitch. Yes he said the pitch was bad. But he was not blaming the pitch for the loss. He merely stated that the pitch was poor and thus affected the technical flow of the game on both sides.

Now, as the shite play on this poor pitch on a regular basis but we're pretty much used to sublime thick pile soft comfy carpet like playing surfaces, it is inevitable that they will cope with the surface better than us. But that still is not an excuse. It is an observation in fact.

Those of us that truly follow the Gunners seem to collectively agree that we were just not good enough on the day. LadyArse has a very good theory which many of us also believe; That we fail mentally at times.

When your team has a poor record against the big rivals and doesn't really know what it takes to beat these teams 'mentally' as well as technically and physically, then they are going to be nervous and lack confidence, which in turn will affect their game.

Only a while ago, the consensus was that we were not physical enough. Well we seem to have quashed that theory recently by standing up to the teams managed by the likes of FatSam (RIP-haha) and Prick McCarthy, who should be managing the England rugby team. So now it's time to fix our mental state.

I don't think that will be fixed until we cross that threshold of having beaten one of our main rivals convincingly. This could happen at any time. Maybe the game against the Chavs on the 27th will be the turning point? It will take just one win against one of these teams to boost the confidence, to give our players a taste of what it feels like. Then they will have gained some experience for next time.

They'll know what sort of glorious feeling they can look forward to if they try harder, if they relax, if they play their normal game without fear. It will happen soon  and when it does, I'm sure these so called fans/Wenger haters will be the first to contact the phone-ins and gloat about how amazing we are.

I fucking hate fickle fans. I'm always ripping into these muggy twats at Newcastle, Liverpool, Blackburn etc demonstrating outside the stadiums cos their manager's been sacked only to hear the same fans cheering the new managers name two weeks later after beating some minnow!

A fan should be objective, realistic and balance the negatives with positives at all times. That is the only way you can be a Gooner for life.

So we move on from Old Trafford in 2nd place having surrendered top spot.
As I said, we were scared. We looked nervy, were slow and indecisive. They played boring defensive football and tried to hit us on the break. Their tactics worked, ours didn't seem to exist. Nasri was nullified. Arshavin should not have been playing after last weeks dire performance in Europe, Walcott should have.

They got the luck with the goal. Some say it was genius technical ability. I say it was a good but lucky reflex reaction. Any other time, the ball would have bounced straight over or into the arms of the keeper. It was a typical United goal, the only surprising thing was that it didn't come in the 7th minute of added on Fergie time with United drawing 1-1.

Then we got the luck with Shrek's penalty miss though it should never have been a penalty as it was ball to hand. Where was Clichy supposed to put his hand when he was clearly using it to lever himself back off the ground as any normal human being would have to do in that scenario? A poor decision by the linesman which should have been over-ruled by Coward Plebb. Did anyone else see that brown paper bag poking out of his pocket? Ferdinand, though he claims his innocence, jumped high and almost gutted Sagna like a fish with his studs, but got away with it. If that was the other way around, it would have been a yellow or red for dangerous play.
*Note to Rio: I know you were innocently looking at the ball when jumping but you can still control your feet and yours were studs up dangerously so don't treat us like mugs.

Anyway, the ref was clearly a homer again but then that was to be expected at Old Twatford.

Next up is Stoke. A battle for certain, but as I said, we can battle now! With Manure playing the Chavs we can only hope for a draw or even a Chav win to keep us within touching distance considering Manure have a game in hand too.

In other news; As mentioned, RIP Fat Sam!! Great news for us football fans as the football hating walrus is gone for now, though unbelievably, is still tipped to possibly be England manager one day, yes! the England Football Team manager?!! Wrong Sport surely!! I hear Martin Johnson could do with a hand over at Twickenham!

Fergie and Fat Andy Gray in particular were in floods of tears upon hearing the news. Andy Gray; 'Football has lost a great manager" - sorry Andy - did he die or something?!
Fergie's nose and face turned from red to purple as he stated how ridiculous the news was...Sam was apparently meeting him for a 'cup of tea' after the game and then two hours later Sam rang him crying down the phone cos he'd been sacked.

Fergie is understandably shocked and will be looking after FatSam at his mansion with a big kiss and hug, warm pyjamas and a vat of Ice Cream, before tucking him up in bed, stroking his hair and singing the lovely Humpty Dumpty nursery rhyme to help him sleep.

Also, Chris Hughton was sacked and Alan Pardew hired. With Alan's amazing track record such as his win percentage of around 40% during his tenure's at Charlton and West Ham, an amazing spell at Southampton, plus regular visits to the relegation zone, it is easy to see why he was number 1 on Fat Mike Ashley's list. The fans protested, then immediately starting cheering Pardew's name as the new 'Messiah' after beating Liverpool. Boring.

So onto this weeks Football related babes! Not Boring!

I have to start with favourite Millie Clode of Sky Sports News of course.

  1. Well said Rob, agree with everything. When all the crackpots come out of the woodwork baying for the blood of one player who in their minds lost us a game I always feel ashamed of these so called 'fans'. We should all be positive like you. Love a positive Gooner!

  2. There are plenty of us who are not just positive but also objective. Negativity is inevitable at times but to take it to the extreme of baying for the manager's blood or like you say, particular players who had a bad game is just ridiculous. I hate that we have fans that are as fickle as those at Newcastle, Liverpool, Spuds etc... just waiting for Twitchy Redknapp to have a bad patch, which will happen, then the spuds will turn on him and they'll be looking for their 275th manager in the last 15 years! Wenger has been at the Arsenal for 14 years for a reason. That reason is - he is irreplaceable!
